Additional details below.

Participants in this community-based trip will have an opportunity to EXPLORE how organizations and institutions in different cultural contexts work to address the social, political, economic, and sustainability challenges brought about by political polarization, global migration, climate change, and economic forms of (dis)integration.

Participants will EXPERIENCE the “Happiest Place on Earth” (no, it’s not Disneyland!) by visiting Finland, which has rocketed to the top of the 2019 World Happiness Index for the second year in a row. What makes Finland such a happy place—even when it has high rates of depression, early disability in youth, and suicide? This study trip will give you the chance to EXPLORE the complex factors that contribute to sustainability, inclusion, and well-being.

Participants will ENGAGE with practitioners and academic experts through workshops, cultural activities, discussions, and walking tours.

Building on several years of collaborative study visits and exchanges between Fresno and Finland, this community-based trip offers participants a first-hand look at how organizations, institutions, and diverse community-based groups address the local-global social, political, economic, and sustainability challenges brought about by globalization.
