Across the United States, local organizations are playing essential roles in addressing some of the country’s most urgent challenges. Now, you can help support their efforts. Starting today, The Atlantic is accepting nominations for the fifth annual Renewal Awards. This nationwide competition was created to recognize nonprofits that are driving positive change in their communities—and to help them make an even bigger impact. Five winners, to be announced in Spring 2020, will each receive $40,000 in funding from Allstate. One of the winners will additionally be presented with the Allstate Youth Empowerment Award. Last year’s winners demonstrated the variety of ways Americans are building community in an era of division—from Pennsylvania’s Welcoming the Stranger, which provides classes in computer skills, English, and citizenship to immigrants and refugees, to California’s Acta Non Verba, which teaches kids about urban farming and uses the revenue generated from the crops they grow to fund college-savings accounts. If you know a nonprofit that is doing similarly great work, we invite you to submit a nomination for The 2020 Renewal Awards. Nominations close December 10, 2019. We will let finalists know their status in February 2020. For a complete breakdown of the official rules, please see here. If you have any questions about The Renewal Awards, you can reach us at RenewalAwards@theatlantic.com.
