Join the Central Valley National Lawyers Guild for our “Reel Justice” film
series! Each month we will be presenting a film that highlights the
intersection of social justice and the law. Screenings are free and open to
the public.
January’s film is “Water and Power: A California Heist.” This movie
explores the intersection of water, power, and social justice in the San
Joaquin Valley of California.
The event will include a movie showing followed by a discussion with Mark
Arax and Paul Gilmore. Arax is an award-winning journalist who is featured
heavily in the film. Gilmore is a professor at FCC with a deep knowledge of
the history of water politics in the Central Valley. NLG Director and
co-chair of the chapter’s Environmental Justice Subcommittee, Mariah
Thompson, will also be available to provide information about water
scarcity, contamination, and the fight for water justice in local low
income rural communities.
